AMBASSADOR’S MESSAGE

I am honored and privileged to serve in Japan as Türkiye’s Ambassador as of 31 December 2024.

I will do my best to further develop the strategically important relations between Türkiye and Japan which are rooted in history. The loss of Frigate Ertugrul off the shores of Kushimoto in 1890 following the first diplomatic contact in 1873 is a tragic milestone in our bilateral relationship. The indelible memories of the helping hand extended by the Japanese Government and people to the Ottoman sailors are still vivid in the minds of the Turkish nation.

The friendly relations took another unexpected twist in 1985 when Türkiye gave a helping hand for the evacuation of 215 Japanese citizens from Tehran.

The disaster relief support that both countries have provided to each other in the wake of Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011 and of earthquakes in Türkiye in August 1999, October 2011 and February 2023, has been constant reminders of the mutual affinity.

Having shared universal fundamental values and common interests, Türkiye and Japan have upgraded their level of bilateral cooperation to strategic partnership when late Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Türkiye on 2-3 May 2013.

Having celebrated in 2024 the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, I am determined to focus on every aspect of the bilateral relations during my term with special emphasis on trade, investment, tourism and cultural realms while regularly providing smooth consular services to Turkish citizens in Japan at the same time.

In conclusion, I extend my warmest wishes for the good health, tranquility and prosperity of Turkish citizens in Japan and of Japanese friends.
